Ah, another winter's morning.....

Nature bestows her own, richest gifts
And, with lavish hands, she works in shifts...
~Gertrude Tooley Buckingham, "The Four Seasons" (1940s)

To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring. ~George Santayana

Soon oh soon Spring will be here....March is  a month of 'moods' here...you never know from one day to the next....but always Spring will come...

The seasons are what a symphony ought to be: four perfect movements in harmony with each other. ~Arthur Rubinstein

 Of winter’s lifeless world each tree
Now seems a perfect part;
Yet each one holds summer’s secret
Deep down within its heart.
~Charles G. Stater

Ah, the white glistening snow....falling softly.....now turning to ice....looks beautiful but oh so dangerous out there....mother nature is amazing.....her beauty.....her wrath........
Up again....can't sleep.....might as well make a little post and share some thoughts and pics and quotes...

There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. ~Ruth Stout

It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it. ~John Burroughs, "Winter Sunshine"

Well, it's so much more lovely in the country....here in the city it does not stay 'white' very long...so you have to enjoy it while you can.....

Brew me a cup for a winter’s night.
For the wind howls loud, and the furies fight;
Spice it with love and stir it with care,
And I’ll toast your bright eyes, my sweetheart fair.
~Minna Thomas Antrim, "A Night Cap," A Book of Toasts, 1902

In the winter she curls up around a good book and dreams away the cold. ~Ben Aaronovitch, Broken Homes

So many of the 'simplest' little things...those moments we miss...can bring a smile, warmth, even make our days special if you only take notice of them. From the rays of the sun shining in your window dancing on the floor or through the curtains....perhaps hitting some flowers or glass and oh how it glows in the sunshine.
The smells in the air, and the sky above. An ever changing 'work of art' constantly in motion for us all.
There is something about the 'little moments in life' that have always meant to much to me.
Hot soup on the stove in winter, the sounds of children playing and laughing. The small sprout popping up through the hard ground as winter ends and Spring hopes to begin. My mother waiting in bated breath for Spring so she can working in her garden, and oh how beautiful it is.

These are the ' treasured little things' they make life worth living, each and every moment..they bring joy. This is mostly what this blog is all about. Love, family, friends, and  the things I have mentioned about to name but a few, all of the joy they can bring.
Even the bitter cold of winter has it's own beauty and little joys if you choose to find them...how the sun shines through the bare trees and lands on the white snow....the little icicles and how they glisten......
And nothing like a nice hot cup of tea all cozy inside....warming you up.....or coffee of course..I love my coffee....

 Living in the city, I just love the sounds of the birds 'when I can hear them over the traffic' what a treat it is if they land on my window sill and sing their precious songs.....
